FIGHT ON, Hillary!

"People have been trying to get me out of this race since Iowa...my political obituary has yet to be written..."

"It's not over until the votes are cast. It's not over until there's actually a tally that gives someone the nomination."
 -- Hillary Clinton on the campaign jet, June 2, 2008

Hillary Clinton is right, morally and legally.

I'm a person who likes to deal with facts.  So let's review some.

FACT: Superdelegates don't have votes until the convention. Until then, they have preferences.

FACT: The Clinton campaign reserved its right to appeal the RBC's Michigan decision to the Credentials Committee. A favorable outcome of that appeal will change the number of delegates needed for the nomination.  Until that appeal is heard, no one should be declaring victory based on 2118.

FACT: Barack Obama literally stole 59 delegates in Michigan: 4 from Hillary Clinton and 55 from Uncommitted, a legally recognized presidential status.  In a tactical error, Obama took his name off the ballot, and now a handful of political hacks at the DNC have set aside fundamental principles of election and constitutional law to effectively reverse his voluntary action.

FACT: These same RBC hacks lecture us disenfranchised Democrats about playing by the rules, but only when the rules favor Obama. (Case in point: the rules give my candidate Hillary Clinton the absolute right and authority to stay in the race and to take her case to the convention floor no matter how many superdelegates "declare.")

FACT:  Caucuses are unfair.  If Michigan delegates can be re-allocated using hokey-pokey methods, certainly it would be reasonable to use the results of actual primary elections in states which had caucuses  to "correct" the delegate tallies so that they are a fairer reflection of the peoples' will.

FACT: Hillary Clinton has won more popular votes than Barack Obama. And, yes, that includes Michigan. You can't have it both ways -- if Obama wants delegates from Michigan, then the popular vote counts.

FACT: Hillary Clinton is the stronger candidate -- by miles -- against John McCain. She has assembled a demographic coalition that has a 100% chance of winning the Presidency for the Democratic Party. She can win crucial states in the general election like Florida and West Virginia that Obama doesn't have a prayer of winning.

FACT: Hillary Clinton still out-polls both Barack Obama and John McCain in Electoral Vote surveys even in a climate of overt misogyny and sexism, even though the media has stopped treating her like a contender, and even in the face of criticism by officials in her own party for continuing to participate in the election.

FACT: Barack Obama's momentum has been sliding downhill since February, even though he has enjoyed the most lopsided media coverage of any presidential candidate in history, and even though he has spent more money, up to 4 times the amount, on advertising than Hillary Clinton. There is no indication that Obama's trajectory will recover anytime soon, especially not given the treasure chest of ammunition he and his wife have produced for the GOP and 527's.

FACT: Barack Obama -- the candidate who promised to transcend race -- threw the race card around in this campaign without shame and with no apparent regard for the long-term consequences to the reputations of two loyal public servants, the Clintons, or the long-term impact on society.

FACT: Barack Obama, if not directly, suggested that white voters who chose Hillary Clinton over him by 30 and 40-point margins in some states did so because of racism, when HE is the one hanging out and praying with his group of racist friends and preachers.

FACT: A huge portion (some polls say up to 50%) of Hillary Clinton supporters would not vote for Barack Obama in the general election, regardless of whether Clinton endorses him or campaigns for him.

FACT: Hillary Clinton will not only be a superior general-election candidate for the Democrats, she will be the best President our country could elect during these perilous and serious times.

On behalf of millions of Hillary Clinton supporters, I want to be sure that she knows where we stand.

FIGHT ON, Hillary. For the people.

Re: FIGHT ON, Hillary! (1.60 / 15)

Sweet and sour pork with pork loin and pineapple, along with seasonings.
INGREDIENTS:

   * 1 1/2 pounds boneless pork loin, sliced 1/2-inch thick
    * 1 tablespoons vegetable oil
    * 1 can (20 ounces) pineapple chunks in juice
    * 3/4 cup water
    * 1/4 cup vinegar
    * 1 tablespoon soy sauce
    * 1/4 cup brown sugar
    * 1/2 teaspoon salt
    * 2 tablespoons cornstarch
    * 2 tablespoons water
    * 1/2 cup thinly sliced onion
    * 1 green pepper, cut in thin strips
    * 2 cups hot cooked rice

PREPARATION:
Directions for sweet and sour pork
Cut pork slices into strips about 3 inches long and 1/2 to 1 inch wide. Sauté pork strips in hot oil over medium heat until lightly browned; drain. Drain pineapple; reserve juice. Combine pineapple juice, 3/4 cup water, vinegar, soy sauce, brown sugar, and salt; pour over pork in skillet. Cover and simmer 1 hour, or until meat is tender. In a cup, combine cornstarch and 2 tablespoons water; stir until smooth. Add cornstarch mixture to pork mixture. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is thickened and bubbly. Add pineapple chunks, onion and green pepper. Cover and simmer sweet and sour pork for 10 minutes longer, or until vegetables are tender. Serve sweet and sour pork over rice.
Sweet and sour pork recipe serves 4 to 6.

For lighter batter, substitute potato starch for corn starch.

Here's what an Atlanta Const. columnist says (2.00 / 1)

Here's is why Obama will be a terrible GE candidate.  It is somewhat the same reaction I had:

Obama's not responsible for what preachers there are saying now. But it is hard to get away from the fact that the incendiary comments that bring joyful noise to the congregation, whether coming from Wright or Pfleger, could not be suddenly different from those that Obama sat through for two decades.

The other observation about Obama's retreat from Trinity is that it took him three weeks to distance himself from Wright and he departs now insisting that he'll not denounce the church. This is a guy who's indecisive or, worse yet, a potential President who can't turn a bad idea loose. He's been accused of turning his debate gaffes into foreign policy -- the pledge to meet with scoundrels and dictators without preconditions, for example.

So now the picture of his leadership is becoming fuller. He's most likely a facilitator, not a decision-maker. And to cover that, he proceeds with misstatements and impulse pronouncements and makes them his policy positions. Not good. Not good at all.

Obama's church won't matter (2.00 / 1)

Iraq, $4.00 a gallon and health care are what is going to matter.

The church will matter only to Limbaugh and his ilk. They will whip up those who would never vote Democratic into a frenzy with this church crap, but its reach is really going to be limited. McCain's Bush problem is much, much bigger baggage than anything Obama is carrying.

And it goes without mentioning that the Democrats are on the winning side of every important issue, including immigration. You want to see a shit storm? -- wait until McCain has to start falling all over himself over his immigration policy. He simply doesn't hate Mexicans enough for the rabid knuckle dragging portion of his base. Those knuckle draggers are the ones who fund GOP Presidential candidates and McCain is going to have to kiss their ring and try and two-step on immigration. When he does he loses Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, and he puts Texas in play. McCain is the one that has to draw to the inside straight, not Obama.

Obama is going to absolutely crush McCain. It isn't even going to be close.

Clinton's better than 2 to 1 overall margin in Puerto Rico is in line with how she has done among Hispanic Catholics across all primaries so far: she won them 69 to 29 percent. Among all Hispanics, Clinton has outpaced Obama 61 to 35 percent in all previous contests with exit polls.

Thanks for the background, SG. Very illuminating. If and when HRC withdraws the Obama-bashers will lose their cover ("I'm only doing this for the good of the party, to help it get the best candidate") as when there's only one candidate left standing then bashing him is by extension also bashing the Democratic party. At that point I very much hope that the MyDD rule will be enforced which states: "Users who are excessively bashing the Democratic Party, or being Republican trolls, will be banned." Jerome did suggest recently that there was going to be a purge once the primary campaign was over, though (logical as ever) he seemed to think it would be Obama supporters who would be in the front line. Way to go, Jerome! Yes, let's get rid of them and keep the people who are getting their talking points from Larry Sinclair! Talk about circular firing squads....

Re: I respectfully submit the following (none / 0)

That's a very reasonable general principle, but what mystifies me about those who say they'll never support Obama under any circumstances/will vote McCain/join a 3rd party etc. is that the substantive policy differences between Obama and Clinton are really quite small, probably much less than the gap between, say, McCain and Huckabee. And they are certainly way less than the policy gulf separating either Clinton or Obama from McCain...as I am sure HRC herself will point out when she endorses Obama. Maybe there are some people who are supporting HRC "just because she's a woman" and will vote against the man who beat her purely out of spite, just as there may be some people who are supporting Obama "just because he's black" and would not have voted for Clinton if she'd beaten him, also out of spite. I hope this is not a significant number, though, because it's a crap reason for casting your vote, basically no better than the racists and sexists who are voting against these candidates for the same reason. My hope is that the vast majority of Clinton supporters actually do so because they agree with many of her policies...and these should come over to Obama in the end, even if the healing may take a while.

Yeah, she cut into his hispanic "base"; you are laughably ignorant.  I could wast time and pick apart all your "facts" but you still wouldn't be able to comprehend the reality of the race as it stands.

No one likes to lose, but you lost.  It's over.  She didn't get the votes, nor the pledged delegates, nor the superdelegates necessary to win.  It was close, yes; and had she campaigned better and not ignored the little states and the caucuses, and had she not been overconfident, she might have won, but she didn't.  Regrets are tough to deal with, and I'd hate to be Hillary at the end of her days, wondering "what if".  It's a shame for her and her supporters, but it is a reality.  She lost.

Using this as a "fact "is (2.00 / 1)

quite disappointing for a couple reasons.

FACT: A huge portion (some polls say up to 50%) of Hillary Clinton supporters would not vote for Barack Obama in the general election, regardless of whether Clinton endorses him or campaigns for him.

First, it's untrue.  Second, no one holds the Democratic Party hostage.

I have no doubt Senator Clinton will do what she thinks is right.

31 states were within 10 points.

Carter won 10 states (Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, West Virginia and Minnesota) and the District of Columbia by more than 10 points.

Ford won 9 states (Alaska, Vermont, New Hampshire, Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, Idaho and Arizona) by more than 10 points.

Carter won 5 more states (Delaware, Florida, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland)  by between 5 and 10 points.

Ford won 6 more states (Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Montana, North Dakota) by between 5 and 10 points.

20 states were within 5 points that year, comprising 299 electoral votes between them.

By contrast, in 2004, 21 states were within 10 points, and only 11 (Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin), comprising 115 electoral votes were within 5.

Some of this is becoming (2.00 / 18)

a little ridiculous, TD. I'm going to have to go with the Obama supporters on this one: what sort of cognitive dissonance is required to able to condemn the disenfranchisement of MI/FL, while simultaneously advocating for the disenfranchisement of the caucus states by saying they shouldn't be included in the popular vote totals? Or is that just doublethink?

Come on, now.

I had Obama supporters infected our blog and spreading rumor that Hillary will close down her campaign.

One person suggest that we should all vote for BO.  When I said that I can't vote fore him because he's inexperience.   That person then said HRC can get the first 4 years but should agree to step down after 4 years, and let BO have the second 4 years.  BO supporter hated the dynasty and wanted to pass the presidency like it's a throne. LOL.

I want her to fight on as well (2.00 / 2)

There is too much at stake.

This primary is historically unprecedented. Never has a race been so close... and yet never has any candidate been forced out prior to the convention?

I don't agree with all the points made in this diary, but my view is that Clinton has more than enough reason and right to take her candidacy to Denver. If that is what she chooses to do she has my absolute support.

I actually believe it is the only way to achieve unity in a race this close:

Denver = Final Vote = Clear Result = Resolution = Unity

Anything less will leave a festering wound in my opinion.

It's over for the Dems, you mean (none / 0)

The "coal triangle" states of WV, OH and PA are keys to winning a presidential election.  Obama has done much less well in these states than Hillary, in direct contests with her, and in polled contests with McCain.  As one can see from the charts below, the net winner of electoral votes in these three states, which are usually closely contested and which shift between parties, mirror the national results.

2004
PA    Kerry 50.9    Bush 48.4    21 electoral votes    Dems 21    GOP 25
OH    Bush 50.8    Kerry 48.7    20    "
WV    Bush 56.1    Kerry 43.2     5    "

2000
PA    Gore 50.6    Bush 46.4    23    "        Dems 23    GOP 26
OH    Bush 50.0    Gore 46.5    21    "
WV    Bush 51.9    Gore 45.6    5    "

1996
PA    Clinton 49.2    Dole 40.0    23    "    [Perot 9.6]    Dems 49    GOP 0
OH    Clinton 47.4    Dole 41.0    21    "    [Perot 10.7]
WV    Clinton 51.5    Dole 36.8      5    "    [Perot 11.3]

1992
PA    Clinton 45.2    Bush1 36.1    23    "    [Perot 18.2]    Dems 49    GOP 0
OH    Clinton 40.2    Bush1 38.4    21    "    [Perot 21]
WV    Clinton 48.4    Bush1 35.4    5    "    [Perot 15.9]

1988
PA    Bush1 50.7    Dukakis 48.4    23    "        GOP 46    Dems 5
OH    Bush1 55.0    Dukakis 44.2 23    "
WV    Dukakis 52.2    Bush1    47.5      5    "

Going back to 1960, the coal state model breaks down only once, when Wallace took away the Democratic southern base.

Fine candidate the Obama people are backing.  It will guarantee a conservative court for 20 more years.

Re: FIGHT ON, Hillary! (2.00 / 7)

Your facts lack a certain something. I think most people call it truth.

So you can't accuse me of being unsubstantive, your claim Obama stole delegates is an absolute lie. Before the RBC ruling, no one had any delegates from Michigan, because they had all been stripped. You can't steal something that doesn't exist. The MDP awarded the delegates on their best estimate of the will of the Michigan voters, considering that Michigan did not have an actual primary.

I could go on, but I get the feeling the diarist doesn't care anymore.

Facts v. predictions (2.00 / 3)

Also, many of the diarist's "facts" are actually predictions.

For example, Hillary Clinton will not only be a superior general-election candidate for the Democrats, she will be the best President our country could elect during these perilous and serious times.

So, unless the diarist has psychic powers, it is inappropriate to contend that one's predictions for the future constitute verifiable "facts."

Re: FIGHT ON, Hillary! (2.00 / 4)

Barack Obama literally stole 59 delegates in Michigan: 4 from Hillary Clinton and 55 from Uncommitted, a legally recognized presidential status.

Presumably, then, Hillary stole 69 of them, since that election was supposed to count for nothing and her main competition wasn't on the ballot.

What a boon (like NAFTA)!

I like this part of your diary:
"FACT: A huge portion (some polls say up to 50%) of Hillary Clinton supporters would not vote for Barack Obama in the general election, regardless of whether Clinton endorses him or campaigns for him."
I am part of this 50% (It may be less than 50% where I am but good 25% for sure. In places like KY or WV 50% may be a right number)!
